Microgen Bioproducts Ltd is an independent private company based in Camberley, Surrey (England).

The company has historically been engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of products which are used by laboratory professionals to aid the detection and diagnosis of diseases and organisms which pose a threat to human and animal health.

Microgen Bioproducts Ltd has an experienced management team and a broad range of products on sale in world markets. We are an established market leader in the development, manufacture and supply of infectious disease and food pathogen detection tests.

To ensure that our products are of a high quality we operate a Quality Management System which is approved to ISO9001:2000 and ISO13485:2003 International Standards.

We have followed a strategy of developing products which detect contaminants at ‘intervention points’ in the human food chain. There is a series of Diagnostic Intervention Points within the human food supply chain:

We believe that inadequate control of infectious agents that can be introduced at these points can lead to the infection of consumers. Once the infectious agent has reached consumers others can be infected directly or through food handling.

We operate a direct sales force in the UK which includes qualified technical territory managers who visit end-users to both promote product sales and provide technical support and advice.

International sales are conducted via distributors in many countries, either as Microgen Bioproducts Ltd labelled products or by sales of bulk material to other companies within the industry.

We also continue to develop products, utilising microbial biochemical identification and immunoassay technology, to expand our position in clinical diagnostics. This is achieved by the introduction of new products into niche market segments and by forming development alliances with larger groups.

FOOD/ENVIRONMENTAL DIAGNOSTICS

In recent years much attention has been paid to the need to ensure that food and beverages are of good quality and that any potential health hazard, such as that posed by micro-organisms, is identified and removed prior to release of the material to the public. There is therefore a growing need for rapid, cost effective manual and automated tests which food manufacturers can use to guarantee high quality products. Microgen has developed and manufactured tests for this purpose using similar technological approaches as which we have successfully used in clinical diagnostics.

VETERINARY DIAGNOSTICS

Healthy animals are a pre-requisite for safe food so we are continuing our development of diagnostic tests for application in the screening of animals for infectious agents that cause both human and animal disease. The strategy of Microgen Bioproducts Ltd is to utilise our skills, proven in the clinical sector, to develop and manufacture test systems which can be marketed for the veterinary, food and environmental markets.
