The ToxiLabTM
Drug Detection system can be used in hospital, reference and
forensic laboratories to screen for the presence of drugs
and other substances.
ToxiLabTM A
• used to detect analgesics, stimulants,
tranquilisers and antidepressants (alkaline and neutral compounds)
ToxiLabTM B
• used to detect barbiturates and
other hypnotics (acidic and neutral compounds)
Complementary to ToxiLabTM
AB are special procedures that can be used as further confirmation
tests eg for the sympathomimetic amines, benzoylecgonine and
benzodiazepines.
Principle
• ToxiLabTM
is a modification of the TLC technique whereby the extraction,
concentration, inoculation, development and detection steps
have been simplified for convenience and to minimise sample
preparation time.
• Drugs / compounds are extracted
using ToxiTubes which contain a mixture of solvents and buffering
salts.
• The solvent extracts are
concentrated by heat and evaporation onto discs of chromatographic
media.
• The dried discs are inoculated into
the openings of prestandardised chromatograms.
• The chromatograms are developed
by placing them in developing jars containing a small amount
of organic solvent.
• Elution of the unknown and standards
from the discs and the resulting Rf occur during the migration
of the solvent.
• Detection of the unknown and standard
spots is achieved by dipping the chromatograms into chromogenic
reagents.
• Identification is based on matching
a spot in the unknown zone with an adjacent standard spot
having the same Rf, size, shape and colour characteristics.
LTD OPIATES
• For initial screening or confirmation
and identification of opiates in urine.
• Extraction is vacuum pump assisted
through Solid Phase Extraction Columns (SPEC-LTD-MP3).
• concentration, inoculation, development
and detection are similar to that for ToxiLab AB.
THC II
• A quick, easy and cost effective
method to screen for or confirm the presence of the Marijuana
metabolite (THC-COOH) in urine.
• Extraction is vacuum pump assisted
through Solid Phase Extraction Columns (SPEC-C18-1).
• Detection and development are similar
to that for ToxiLab AB.
